If anyone told me last year that I would be homeschooling two toddlers in 2020, I would’ve told them to get out of town. But clearly, the joke was on me. Having both kids’ schools close in March of 2020, I needed to be strategic with how to occupy their time so they can play and learn together. Initially, I was lost, confused, and wondering how I was going to homeschool and work full time during the day.
The first thing I needed to do was to accept my new normal. I kept telling myself that things were going to be OK. Expect the kids to interrupt me while I was on a video call. I mean, what could I do? I can’t ignore them. They still needed to be watched. I needed to ensure that they were safe, or better yet, not painting the walls, and eating all the cookies in the pantry.
We did the best we could. We attempted “school” in the morning. Soon, they became bored. Chandler just wanted to play. This just wasn’t working.
I then decided to include both Aspen and Chandler in the planning for our weeks. We decided on a daily theme.
Math Monday, Tech Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Think Outside the Box Thursday, and Fun Friday.
This was a hit! Involving the kids was the game plan moving forward. They each chose their activity for the day. The days weren’t perfect, but things got better and it took away some stress. While looking for some creative, educational options for the kids, I came across a series of crafts and fun games/activities that interested both Aspen and Chandler. These games are STEAM games and really allow them to get creative and have some friendly competition but also some individual time if they choose to play separately. Our kids these days have the coolest gadgets; better than we ever did as 80’s babies.
Check out these Educational toys for ages 3+ Years old. You’ll thank me later.

This is so amazing. I love how you involved them in planning their week. I learned that things go much smoother when you plan it that way. Give yourself some grace. You are doing an amazing job Mama!
