No one is telling you to go out and cut your belly open, or hell, not eat what you want. But let’s be realistic. Statistics show that our Black community is suffering as it relates to various health conditions. These days I’m striving to live a healthier life day by day. I make exercise a priority in my family and go to the doctor regularly, not only when something doesn’t seem right. I’m including more vegetables in our meals, making the conscious decision to drink more water, and taking that walk with the kids. A healthier lifestyle can make all the difference in your mental state, in your health, and heck, how you feel.
During this pandemic, I went to my normal yearly check up. A week later, I was beyond shocked to see that my results showed I had high blood pressure. I thought: What in the royal hell? How? When? I am a size 4 and getting back to a size 2, I told myself in my head.
But that didn’t matter, too many hotdogs, steaks, and oh some Publix fried chicken. I was hooked on my peloton and really enjoying my workouts, but my eating sucked. So instead, now I compete with my family and launch monthly challenges to get the entire family walking. Don’t worry about your hair. Simply grab you a Gym Wrap to lay down those edges and go. These cute wraps keep me going, even on hot summer days in ATL.
On days where I want to do some indoor meditating, stretching, or yoga, I love to use my Gaiam Yoga Matt to stretch, and have a variety of fun yoga sessions with Aspen. Now a days, Chandler wants to do some working out with mommy with his indoor bike. I’ve been cutting out unnecessary processed foods, and eating more vegetables. I actually pay attention to the ingredients and often hit up the website Eat Plants and Prosper for vegan recipes to try. And guess what? I actually enjoy them.
One of my favorites are the Jamming Jerk Black-eyed peas and the Collard Greens.
So get up momma, take a walk, hell, do some jumping jacks with the kids before bed. Let’s take care of ourselves.
Go Fit it Momma!
