It’s been more than 125 days since Covid restrictions grounded the King household. And mommas, while not being able to do the little things has been an adjustment, it hasn’t been that bad.
I can’t remember the last time I’ve gotten to spend this much time with my littles. My days are super long, but they’re the most productive in forever. I mean, I started a darn company for goodness sake.
We’re all in one place with nowhere to go, but we can be creative and really get back to the basics. What isn’t changing is hygiene: “Wash your hands and don’t touch your face” is like a song in my house.
So how can we prepare our kids for social distancing if they don’t have to leave the house. Should they wear a mask? Uh yes, why would I protect me and not them? If I’m going to order myself a cute mask, the kids need some cute ones as well.
Explaining the dangers of Covid to a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old can sound different, but it has the same meaning. For Chandler, it’s the importance of not wiping his nose with his fingers or on my shirt. Yet Aspen is fully aware of Covid’s seriousness and won’t touch the sink if anyone else has touched it. She’s the big sister reminding little brother to count to 20 and 30, while making bubbles to get all those germs off.
Mommas: We have to be creative with these littles. Let them pick out their masks to order and when they arrive, have fun and let them try them on. Teach them how to remove their mask (fingers on the straps and nowhere else). And just in case you haven’t found a child-friendly mask, here are my favorites.
Let’s protect our babies Mommas.
