Can you believe that we are almost in October? I went by Starbucks the other day and saw my Fall true love… Oh Pumpkin Spice. With fall, comes beautiful autumn colors, failing leaves, cool breeze, and time for Trick or Treating. But what will families do with Covid Cases still not settling in certain parts of the United States.
First things first, let’s get them out the house to a local Pumpkin Patch. During Pumpkin Season, it seems that everyone has pumpkins for sale for the the kids to participate in various crafts. I’ve seen Pumpkin Patches at Churches, Schools, and local Farms. I started this yearly tradition when Aspen was of age to hold her first pumpkin.
Next, comes Halloween. Having two toddlers in any household during this difficult time for families will be essential to ensure the kids have some sort of normalcy to look forward to. In my house hold, Aspen has continued to change whom she wants to dress up for Halloween. I think we are probably on option 6 at this point. Yes, there were 5 different characters in the last 60 days. Meanwhile, Chandler is content with wearing his Race Car costume from last year.
It’s critical to be realistic about what’s happening right now and identify if it is safe to Trick or Treat. In Georgia, our cases remain steady. As a result, we have decided on an alternative and create Halloween at home as a scavenger hunt. I can’t say that I am 100% comfortable with my toddlers putting their hands in candy bowls outside, along with other children and be 100% safe. However, I don’t want them to experience a cancellation of the holiday. Here is my strategy for having Halloween, in a clean way.
Decorate:
We will still decorate, but this time there will be more. Lights, props, and costumes. We began looking online to see who was having the best sales on decorations. In addition, I am including the kids to create a fun way to engage both of them and create these lasting memories. The Dollar Tree has many options to keep it simple, and festive without hurting your budget.
Create:
Having some fun free ideas for Halloween games for them to play is an absolute must! Here’s a cute free surprise to get the day going for a Boo-tiful Day. It will be a nice way to set the tone for Holloween 2020.
Paper Towel Bowling: Grab 6 paper towels and decorate them as a scary monster (Black Gooey Eyes) or Black Sharpie Markers and anything round for the bowling ball. I will be using a soft pumpkin I grabbed from Target’s $1 Section. (I’m sure we won’t throw them out afterwards. Paper Towels are not cheap!)
Fun Fall Projects:
Monster Themed Decorations
Outdoor Scavenger Hunt: Our Outdoor Scavenger Hunt will include small candy bags for the kids to find. The goal is to get them outside and active so they can hopefully get a good night’s rest. We may even have a special guest come along as a monster to scare them a little. Oh the joys of having grandparents around sometimes.
Pumpkin Painting Party: (Socially Distant Of course)
Grab some pumpkins and get creative.
We opted for Glow in the Dark Pumpkins to spice things up this year. I think I was more excited than the kids were. I found small pumpkins at the Dollar Tree for the kids, and White and Black Pumpkins at Michaels for the adults. This was so much fun!
There’s also simply grabbing what ever supplies you have in the house. Straws, paint, buttons, ribbon, and get the kids into some arts and crafts.
Pumpkin /Monster Tick Tack Toe: (Outdoor)
Chalk to create the Lines
Pumpkins/Monster Figures for Each Player
Regardless if your family chooses to keep tradition up and trick or treat outside in your local neighborhoods, or stay in doors and get crafty, I hope you have an amazing Boo-tiful Holloween.
